THE 100TH: Seeds of Aloha is a feature-length educational documentary sharing the story and legacy of Hawaiʻi’s 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team—Japanese American soldiers who became part of one of the most highly decorated units in U.S. military history. The film explores not only their courage during World War II, but also how the Spirit of Aloha influenced their service and their contributions to building a free world for generations afterward.
The project needed more than a traditional movie website. As the documentary moved through production, fundraising, community outreach, and test screenings, the website needed to become a central digital platform where visitors could learn about the film, watch promotional media, discover screenings, support the project, contribute historical materials, access media resources, and stay connected with the film’s growing community.
With a large amount of historical information and continually changing project content, the additional challenge was organizing everything into an experience that remained easy to navigate while respecting the significance of the veterans and their stories.
We created and continue to develop 100thfilm.org as the central online hub for THE 100TH: Seeds of Aloha.
The website combines storytelling, film promotion, fundraising, event management, community engagement, and project resources within one organized digital experience. Visitors can learn about the documentary and its historical background, watch the official trailer, explore the original soundtrack, access film and media resources, and follow project updates.
To support the film’s test-screening program, we developed dedicated event functionality that allows audiences to discover upcoming screenings, view past event galleries, learn how to host a test screening, and submit post-screening feedback through an exit survey. This gives the production team a flexible way to promote screenings while gathering valuable audience input as the film continues to be refined.
Fundraising was also integrated directly into the website. Individual donors and corporate or organizational sponsors can contribute online, select donation levels, honor specific soldiers, choose public or anonymous acknowledgement, and appear on the project’s donor recognition system. The website also communicates fundraising progress and provides information about how contributions support the production.
Additional workflows support appearance releases, location releases, historical content contributions, media materials, press coverage, merchandise, soundtrack sales, newsletter registration, and general project inquiries—allowing the website to function as an evolving digital infrastructure for the documentary rather than simply a promotional page.
The result is a scalable platform that helps THE 100TH preserve an important chapter of Hawaiʻi and Japanese American history while connecting veterans’ families, community organizations, screening partners, donors, sponsors, media, and future audiences around the film.
